Designed for a client who loves to entertain and host dinner parties, this Palm Beach residence is at once elegant and refined. Located in Palm Beach, this Palm Beach home channels classic old Florida both inside and out. The house is done in a modern Mediterranean architectural style and the rooms are filled with natural light. The project began before the pandemic started, and client meetings were done remotely, allowing for a continuing dialog and creative evolution.

Palm Beach design and architecture. Living room with light pink tones, natural colors and metal accents.

Working with the existing interiors, the goal was to create a light and bright home that was well-suited to entertaining. Rather than start with a blank slate, Gil Walsh and team incorporated many of the client’s existing pieces and modified others, to include pieces that they loved but that needed a refresh.  A soft pink and celadon color palette was used throughout and adds to the coastal, tropical air. To instantly brighten the primary spaces, the living room was painted white, and the dark beams and coffers were left as-is since they added visual interest and architectural elements. A pink and white scheme coordinates the space, where Old Florida and Indonesian influences can be seen.  Painting dark wood consoles with a coat of chalky white paint gave them a second life with a fresh feel, and they now flank the fireplace in the living room. The seating area includes matching pink sofas surrounding a glass-topped coffee table placed near the fireplace. Decorative accessories such as white beaded boxes made into lamps lend an exotic air, while metal drinks tables with tree bases bring elements that bring the outside in.

In the library, the existing dark wood paneling was kept, and a blue palette ties the room together along with cream upholstery that contrasts with the darker wood used. The architectural elements serve as a backdrop for traditional silhouettes and classic forms.

A powder room greets guests with a riot of color and provides an opportunity to wow. The wallpaper includes monkeys, birds, and assorted tropical foliage that provides a true sense of place.

The outside seating areas are perfect for enjoying balmy weather year-round, and Gil discovered a fantastic set of vintage black metal outdoor furniture with pale pink pillows trimmed in black that fit the space perfectly and add to the Old Florida sensibility.

In the main bedroom, a celadon green and pale pink scheme is used to create a soothing respite, replete with a chaise by the window to admire the tropical vista beyond. A mix of pink and green prints and patterns featuring flora and fauna add to the serene feeling.
